A Roaming IN transaction happens when a driver from another eMobility Service Provider (EMP),  not directly contracted with your charging network,  uses your charging station to charge their vehicle.

  • The charging session takes place on your (the CPO’s) network
  • The driver’s EMP handles the customer relationship
  • And the session data and payment details are exchanged through an OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) connection.

This makes it possible for drivers from many different charging apps and networks to use your chargers seamlessly.

 

1. How Roaming IN works in practice

 
1. Driver starts a session via their EMP app or RFID card

  • The EMP’s system authenticates the driver and sends a start request to your CPO backend via OCPI.

2. Your charging point provides the service

  • The session runs as usual, the CPO’s charger delivers energy, measures usage, and records the start and stop times, kWh, and pricing information.

3. The session data is sent back via OCPI

  • Once the session ends, your backend sends the completed session data (energy, time, cost) to the EMP through the OCPI roaming connection (via Gireve, or a direct P2P link).

4. Settlement between the CPO and EMP

  • The EMP collects payment from the driver, then compensates you (the CPO) for the session.
  • In the Automated Roaming IN Payouts model, this process is handled automatically, verified OCPI data triggers the payout to you without manual reconciliation.

5. Payout to the CPO

  • You receive your payout for all completed, verified Roaming IN sessions during your regular payout cycle.
  • Your existing payout schedule and reporting remain unchanged, only the processing is automated.
