OCPP stands for the Open Charge Point Protocol. OCPP is an open communication protocol for communication between EV charging stations and central management software. Open protocols enable interoperability between charging stations, vehicles, and station management services. They encourage innovation and collaboration at the same time making sure that the cost of EV charging remains competitive for EV drivers and business owners. OCPP is designed to be vendor-independent, thereby providing the opportunity for infrastructure operators in choosing EV Charging Stations, and for vendors to supply EV Charging Stations to any infrastructure operator.
OCPP is an initiative led by the Open Charge Alliance (OCA). It was first defined and deployed in 2010 and today is used by a large number of vendors of charging stations. The protocol is constantly being further developed.
Virta currently supports OCPP 1.5 SOAP, OCPP 1.5 JSON and OCPP 1.6 JSON.
